Exception Rise: A Sims 3 Prosperity Blog
(From the People Who Brought You Tranquility Bay)
A long time ago, a mystical disembodied voice was busy putting out fires (both literal and figurative) in the tiny village she was responsible for overseeing when she heard a faint rumbling in the distance. After verifying that nobody was hurt in her own town she gazed beyond its boundaries for the first time since her arrival, and was amazed to find an entire new town had sprung up.
Excited, she swooped in and, as mysterious disembodied voices will do, began to oversee the lives of its residents just as she did in her own village. She even told her old village about her discovery, although only a handful of it's citizens seemed remotely interested. It didn't take long for her to realize that this town was quite different from the one she knew. The people in this new town didn't want anything to do with a disembodied narrator. They even continued living their lives while she visited others, leaving her out of many important moments she was accustomed to observing. Keeping up with this new town
Disaffected, the mysterious voice left the new town behind and returned to her village. Time passed, and eventually she forgot about the other town-until she heard the rumbling noise again, much louder than before. Then it came again...and again...and again.
Her own villagers seemed oblivious, but the sounds were too much for the mysterious voice to not investigate. When she arrived back in the other town, she didn't notice any obvious signs damage. However, by remaining silent and listening to the residents, she overheard that a series of major earthquakes had turned surrounding towns into disaster areas. While the damage in this town had been minor and easily repaired, the citizens were left with the new realization that their world was much less stable than they had once thought.
Realizing that the citizens of this new town needed her guidance now more than ever, but also realizing that they most likely wouldn't want her meddling directly in their lives, the mysterious voice devised a plan. She hurried back to her village and recruited one of the few villagers who had shown an interest this "new world" all those years before. She told the villager about the unease and fear she'd seen in the other world, and the two agreed that the villager would act as the mysterious voice's "avatar", helping out the new town on her behalf.
The mysterious voice scoped the town, and selected six families who, given time, may have been open to the idea of a disembodied voice bringing stability to their world. With any luck, this new town would become as prosperous as her first-she just had to make them listen...
Welcome, everyone to the long-awaited sequel to Tranquility Bay. Well, not exactly a sequel I guess since Tranquility Bay is far from over. (At the rate I'm going it's going to be a long, long time before that happens.) When I first purchased The Sims 3 in 2009, I dabbled in it a little bit before realizing that I just didn't like it as much as The Sims 2. So back to the Sims 2 I went. Everybody was happy, and all was right with the world. But then Sims 3 expansions started coming. And as much as I hated to admit it, the expansion packs began to make the game semi-enjoyable, until I was playing as much as I was playing The Sims 2. So, naturally, I decided it was high time I admit to it and start blogging that game too.
This blog is kind of an experiment, because playing Prosperity (which after 5 years is the only way I know how to Sim anymore) in an un-modded TS3 game is pretty much impossible. The game's just not built for jumping between houses every Sim week. Thanks to the AwesomeMod I think I've set up a pretty good approximation. But I'm going to have to be a bit looser with the rules than I am in Tranquility Bay, as I have no idea how well this is going to work. Anyway, we've got six starting families to get to so I guess we'd better get started...
